Theoretical background and ways to promote development in Bio Beginnings

By Chelsea Barrett A big name in biological theories is the famous Charles Darwin. Charles Darwin was a British naturalist who proposed the theory of biological evolution by natural selection. Darwin also went on to define evolution as “descent with modification”   The only way to promote development in this area is for the mother to focus on prenatal care (aside from regular doctors’ appointments), since most of the fetal development occurs in utero. Things that the mother can do are, take prenatal vitamins, switch to a nutrient dense diet, reduce stress levels, and stay active. Prenatal vitamins and nutrients are especially important because certain minerals like Folic acid prevents neural tube defects. Additionally, Iron helps a baby's growth and development.   Staying active and reducing stress will prompt the body to release endorphins. This chemical made by the body will help aid the women and baby through child birth.

Ways to Promote Language Development

WAYS TO PROMOTE LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT By: Kristina Gonzalez There are many ways that you can promote language development at home, in the classroom, and in every day life. Here are a couple of ways you can promote and encourage language development in children.  1. READING: Having students read daily is key for success. They will be exposed to new vocabulary words, sight words, and develop their fluency with daily reading.  2. SONGS: Exposing students to music is a great way to promote language development as they are being exposed to new words and sounds.  3.  RHYMES:  Rhymes are a great way to expose children to language and expand their language development. Rhymes allow child to listen and retain words. 4. BABBLE : Saying sounds like "ma" is a great way to develop your child's language development. Having them mimic the sounds you make is a great way for children to develop language.  5. REPEAT: Repeating words that your baby says is a great way to pr...

Developmental Milestones in Biological Beginnings

By Chelsea Barrett Month 1 (weeks 1 through 4) As the fertilized egg grows, the amniotic sac starts to form. During this time, the placenta also develops. The placenta is a round, flat organ that transfers nutrients from the mother to the fetus, and transfers wastes from the fetus Month 2 (weeks 5 through 8) Vital organs begin to develop such as the brain, spinal cord, and neural tissue. Month 3 (weeks 9 through 12) By the end of the third month, the fetus is fully formed. All the organs and limbs are present and will continue to develop in order to become functional.  Month 4 (weeks 13 through 16) The nervous system is starting to function. The reproductive organs and genitals are now fully developed. Month 5 (weeks 17 through 20) The mother may start to feel the child moving inside of her. This is because to fetus’s muscles are getting stronger and they start to stretch and exercise them. Month 6 (weeks 21 through 24) The fetus responds to sounds by moving or temperature. ...

Importance of Physical Development in Children

Written by: Briona Estrada Physical Development in Children When we are born, we enter the world as infants, small and fragile. We are not ready to be alone in the world and we need our parents to hold us, take us everywhere, feed us, and just do everything for us overall. As we grow, we begin learning to move around by ourselves. We learn to walk, then we learn to talk, pick up a spoon and feed ourselves, and so on. It takes a long time to grow into a full sized adult, and there's numerous phases of growth and development between infancy and adulthood. We develop mentally and physically through these stages and it's all a part of the growth we all experience.  How do we ensure a proper, healthy growth process?   Well, the answer, as with all things, is to maintain a healthy overall lifestyle. This includes diet, a stable loving environment, and proper sleep and exercise. Overall, a growing child needs a healthy lifestyle from the onset so they can have proper mental and...

Language Development in Children

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT IN CHILDREN By Kristina Gonzalez: Language Development is compromised of 4 basic components on language. The four basic components being phonology, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics. All of these components are crucial for language development in children, in order for language development to be mastered, these four components must be met for success. Naturally some children will reach these components earlier than others, allowing for their language to develop. In this blog, we will be discussing all things related to the development of language in a child.  WHAT DO THE 4 COMPONENTS MEAN? PHONICS:Students need to know how words  SOUND SEMANTICS: Students need to know the   MEANING  of words so they are able to understand and build sentences.  SYNTAX:Students need to know the RULES of how to build meaningful sentences.  PRAGMATICS:Students need to be able to use social conventions and have SPEAKING strategies.  There are m...

Biological Beginnings

By Chelsea Barrett            There is  so many stages that occur from the moment of conception to a moment a baby is born into the world. At the moment of conception, a woman's body starts to prepare for the new life growing inside of her. If we break this down into three main stages you have  the formation of the zygote, the embryo, and the fetus.  Zygote:   combination of the chromosomes from the female’s ovum and the male’s sperm. Embryo : during this phase the "baby" will start developing after the second week and through the eighth week after conception. During this period, the body starts developing along with features and the organs. Fetus:  The formation of the fetus takes place during the ninth week until birth. During this phase the baby starts developing sensory abilities, brain structures, and vital organs.
